what advice might you have for someone getting into, say, mixing tracks on their computer? and would it please you to know you've inspired that persons work?

I'm flattered I've inspired someone else! As for mixing on a computer, I'd say get to know a handful of basic tools--EQ, compression, reverb and delay. Don't get overwhelmed by all the plugin choices that you have, just learn to master a few at first, and stick with those.
