At what age did you realize that composing was what you wanted to do.
Probably when I was 17. I wrote a musical my senior year in high school, and I loved the process. Decided that I wanted to give it a try as a career!
I loved Calling all Dawns, not only because it was a musical masterpiece but because of how it highlights the sameness of the entire human race through music. We truly are one people, no matter the color of the dawn we grew up with.
But I'm just swept away by how Waloyo Yamoni borrows your soul and takes it to an old, indigenous stage.
I sensed a great yearning, a profound desire for something from the song, as if were inviting life itself into the world.
Then when I read the lyrics, I realized that that was just exactly it. I'm from the Philippines, a country that still has indigenous people. We have an indigenous saying "Ti Danum Ket Biag" which means "Water is Life".
"If there is rain, we shall rejoice! It is well! There is life! Our granaries are full!"
It's funny how much we've lost touch with nature that we don't realize the simple joy that the rain brings life.
Thank you for your song. You are a gift to humanity. I would love to meet you someday and thank you in person.
